This Privacy Policy explains what information Fix It Daily (“we,” “us” or “our”) collects when you visit fixitdaily.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to a minimum. You can read every guide on this site without creating an account or giving us any personal information.
Information We Collect
When You Browse the Site
Like nearly every website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information when your browser requests a page. This can include your IP address, browser type, device type, the page you requested, the referring page and the date and time of the visit. These server logs are used to keep the site running, secure and protected against abuse.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use the site, such as which guides are read most, how people arrive at the site and what type of device they use. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect this information, including an approximate location derived from your IP address. We use these reports only in aggregate to improve our guides. We do not currently use advertising networks or social media tracking pixels on this site.
When You Leave a Comment
If you comment on a guide, we collect the name, email address and optional website you enter in the comment form, along with your comment, your IP address and your browser’s user agent string. Your name, website and comment are displayed publicly. Your email address is never displayed.
We use Akismet, a service operated by Automattic, to screen comments for spam. Comment data is sent to Akismet for this check. You can read Automattic’s privacy policy to learn how it handles that information.
An anonymized string created from your email address (called a hash) may be sent to Gravatar, also operated by Automattic, to see whether you have a Gravatar profile picture. If you do, it may appear next to your comment.
When You Email Us
If you write to us at hello@fixitdaily.com, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message. We use it only to read and respond to you.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish visitors and measure site usage. We do not use advertising cookies. If you leave a comment and check the box to save your name, email and website, a cookie stores those details in your browser for about a year so you don’t have to retype them next time. You can clear cookies at any time through your browser settings.
How We Use Information
- To operate, maintain and secure the website.
- To display and moderate comments and filter spam.
- To respond to questions, corrections and suggestions you send us.
- To understand which guides are useful and improve them, using aggregate analytics reports.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
How Long We Keep Information
Comments and their associated information are kept for as long as the comment remains on the site, so follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically. Emails are kept for as long as needed to respond and keep a record of the conversation. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider under its own retention practices.
Your Choices and Rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it or delete it. To make a request, email hello@fixitdaily.com and tell us the email address you used when commenting. We may need to keep certain information when the law requires it or to protect the site against fraud and abuse. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws, and we will honor valid requests.
Third-Party Links
Our guides sometimes link to other websites, such as manufacturer pages or government safety resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, so please review their policies when you visit them.
Children’s Privacy
Fix It Daily is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the site, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
If we add advertising, affiliate links or other services that collect information, we will update this policy before those services go live and change the effective date at the top of this page.
